Team Culture and Leadership Development

Is your team performing to it's best? Does the performance of your team consistently reflect the sum of its individuals parts? Are your team united regarding discipline, communication, team-work and team cohesion?

If you answered NO to any of the above questions, then this work-shop might be appropriate. Successful team managers strive to ensure that ALL players or followers strive to work together within a collective team unit in a cohesive manner. This work-shop may be tailored to your teams specific needs. It will facilitate identification of group values and behavioral change towards a positive team environment while increasing group discipline, group dynamics, group confidence, motivation, communication and commitment. The session is ideally but not exclusively conducted early season or early in your tenure as team manager.

Motivation and Goal Setting

Goal setting is a strategy widely accepted as fundamental to performance excellence across a wide variety of spectrums, i.e business, sport, education etc. It serves as a tool to map out where you presently are, where you want to get to and clarifies exactly what actions you need to take to get there.

This workshop facilitates development of team or individual specific performance targets to aid goal achievement – lifestyle choices, addressing fitness / skill deficiencies etc. Early season is often best but this session can be delivered or replicated at any time of the season.

Concentration and Mental Skills Training - Self-talk and Visualisation

This is a bespoke workshop, designed specifically to address issues regarding concentration within your team or individual. It will be effective in helping athletes to perform to their optimum with regard to skill execution in pressure scenarios.

Concentration involves full immersion of ones attention in the completion of a skilled task. Development of mental skills including visualisation and self talk ("trigger thought strategies") can help players to activate and maintain optimal thought processes in pressure scenarios allowing them to perform optimally. For example, directing attention on specific and appropriate cues may help direct focus away from negative internal distractors (anxiety/ worrisome thoughts) and external distractors (crowd, opposition, score, time remaining etc) and onto relevant stimuli, facilitating natural "flow" and aiding performance. This workshop may be especially relevant for implementation of set piece movements and closed skill tasks ie: rugby line-out, rugby scrum, hockey short corner etc and closed skill tasks such as golf, gaelic football / hurling free taking, rugby goal kicking, basketball free throw or any other closed skill movements; i.e tennis serve, snooker, soccer penalty / free kick, goalkeeping kick out etc.

Anxiety, Performance Stress & Attention Control

Do you or your athletes struggle to perform when under pressure. Some athletes and teams want success so bad, they struggle to deal emotionally with the pressure of performing on the big day. This session educates you on how performance anxiety can impact performance and empowers you with the tools to overcome the nervousness associated with performing on the biggest days.

Sports Task Specific Workshop

This is an individually designed bespoke session to aid attentional focus to increase skill execution around sport specific tasks. Ie goal-keeping, free taking (GAA), goal kicking (Rugby), golf, penalty taking (soccer / hockey), goalkeeping etc.

Team Role Clarity

Do your team fully understand their roles within your team? Are they accepting of their roles and do they prioritise the most important aspects of their roles for the teams' benefit. Are they implementing tactics around restarts, attacking and defending principles that you are trying to embed within team structure?

Do they communicate well with their team-mates around executing these position specific roles? This session addresses all of these issues, facilitating players to clearly define, understand and accept the position specific nature of their individual roles in relation to a team's game plan, promoting clear understanding of what is required on the pitch.

Coach Support - Leadership & Psychological Support

  1. Are you getting the maximum from your players?
  2. Could you be a more effective communicator?
  3. Do you have difficulty getting through to some of your players and is this impeding your team's progress?
  4. Do you have players and athletes working 'against the grain'?
  5. Do you need help getting your team to buy into and respond to your idea?

If so, you may need help with getting more engagement from your players.

This session involves empowering management & coaches to understand the psychological concepts behind developing and maintaining a positive motivational climate within their group – strengthening the engagement, enjoyment and commitment of ALL players, and increasing the likelihood of success.
