Motivation & Goal Setting "You don't sit into your car and expect to get to your destination without knowing where you are going." Goal setting is a strategy widely accepted as fundamental to performance excellence across a wide variety of spectrums, i.e business, sport, education etc. It serves as a tool to map out where you presently are, where you want to get to and clarifies exactly what actions you need to take to get there.
This workshop facilitates development of individual specific performance targets to aid goal achievement – lifestyle choices, addressing fitness / skill deficiencies etc. Early season is often best but this session can be delivered or replicated mid season also. If you think that this session might be of benefit to you, contact us to discuss your ideas
Mental Skills Training (visualisation / self-talk) This is a bespoke workshop, designed specifically to address issues regarding concentration and readiness for maximal performance. Development of mental skills including visualisation and use of “trigger thought strategies” can help athletes to have optimal thought processes allowing them to perform optimally within game specific scenarios. For example, directing attention on specific and appropriate cues may help direct focus away from negative internal distractors (anxiety/ worrisome thoughts) and external distractors (crowd, opposition, score, time remaining etc) and onto relevant stimuli, facilitating “flow” of movement processes to complete the task at hand.
This workshop may be especially relevant for implementation of set piece movements and closed skill tasks ie: rugby line-out, rugby scrum, hockey short corner etc and closed skill tasks such as golf, gaelic football / hurling free taking, rugby goal kicking, basketball free throw or any other closed skill movements; i.e tennis serve, snooker, soccer penalty / free kick, goalkeeping kick out etc. Contact us to find out more.
Anxiety, Performance Stress and Attention Control Do you under-perform when the stakes are high? Do you worry about your performance? Are you distracted by intruding thoughts and fears? Do you make mistakes or show poor or irrational decision making in competitive situations when under pressure that you would never make in training. Do you struggle with the YIPS in golf when playing in competitions?
If so, you may be suffering from situational induced psycho-somatic stress which may act as a performance block during competition. Research has shown that low levels of anxiety may help performance. However, high levels of anxiety may impede performance, clouding an athletes capacity to execute skills to their ability and be responsible for large performance decrements.
Great athletes learn to control these anxiety levels to find the perfect balance and deliver performance excellence on a consistent basis on the big stage. Contact us below for more information.
Sports Task Specific Workshop This is an individually designed bespoke session to aid attentional focus to increase skill execution around sport specific tasks. Ie free taking (GAA), goal kicking (Rugby), golf, penalty taking (soccer / hockey), goalkeeping etc.
