Further Information
In order to lose weight in a sustainable manner, you must consistently burn more calories than you consume. The following four factors will help to facilitate success.
1 Exercise; this will help burn the calories that are required to reduce fat levels and speed up metabolism, therefore burning calories more efficiently during a normal day.
2 Diet; there needs to be a sustainable change in diet. A good diet should include regular balanced meals that incorporate foods that are both “tasty” and filling. These meals should include a portion of wholegrain carbohydrate foods (breads, pasta, rice etc) that have a low glycaemic index (slow energy release foods) helping to sustain energy levels throughout the day.
3 Time management; in our busy lives that we lead, many of us put on weight due to poor time management. We struggle to find the time to prioritise healthy food preparation and as a result, pick up unhealthy, calorie rich, nutritionally poor snacks and meals on a regular basis. We give you motivation, skills and tips to overcome these obstacles using a client centered approach that makes it all work for you!
4 Metabolism. Your metabolic rate determines the speed at which you burn off calories on a daily basis. Exercise is known to speed up your metabolic rate. However the timing and sequencing of meals also affects metabolic rate. In fact eating regularly (when done correctly) may help speed up metabolism allowing weight loss in a more effective manner. Learn how to time meals and snacks to keep metabolism speeded up to complement a weight loss programme. Also learn some important tricks around speeding up your metabolism with appropriate levels of exercise.
4 Fun and enjoyment. One of the main predictors of weight loss sustainability is that an individual participates in activities that are both socially inclusive and enjoyable, whether that is walking with a friend, attending a group exercise class or just jogging by yourself. If you don’t enjoy it, the behavioural change will not be maintained long term, making it difficult to sustain weight loss which is often followed by significant weight gain (often known as the yoyo effect). We take a deeper look at what is sustainable and enjoyable for you so that you take ownership of your own weight-loss journey in an exciting and enjoyable manner.
Progressive exercise programmes (strength and aerobic) are also on offer also from www.performancepsychology.ie. However, as stated above, the fun and enjoyment and or social factor is crucial to maintain any behavioural change so ensure that you are supported by friends and family in your quest to lose weight.
